We spent 10 days pet-sitting in Prague, and luckily for us, it happened to be in Vinogrady. We didn’t know much about the area before we arrived, but it quickly became our favorite part of Prague!
Vinohrady is a trendy area of Prague that is very popular with ex-pats and young professionals. It still has a very local vibe (which we loved) and is within walking distance of the old town.
If you want to stay in Prague for a few days or an extended period, Vinohrady is the perfect place. It has many great cafes, bars and restaurants and colorful old buildings.
We loved our time in Vinohrady because the streets are peaceful and relaxed. Plus you have access to the best sunsets in Prague at Riegrovy Sady Park.
In this article, I will tell you what there is to do in Vinohrady, where to eat, where to have the best coffee, and where to stay in this awesome neighborhood.
Fun Fact: Vinohrady means vineyards in Czech. This is because, in the 14th century, the area was full of vineyards as it was on the outskirts of town. Today you can still see some vineyards on the side of Grebovka Park but the area is mostly apartment buildings.
What to do in Vinohrady
Vinohrady isn’t packed with major attractions, but simply strolling through the neighborhood is a great thing to do in itself. And the spots that are there to check out are definitely worth seeing!
1. Get Lost in the Grotto of Grebovka Park
Grebovka is located on the edge of Vinohrady and is one of the largest parks in Prague. My favorite part of Grebovka Park is the grotto.
This is a fake cave behind a fountain that was created in the late 1800s. Apparently, it was popular for rich people to make fake caves during that period. A weird way to show off their wealth!
But I like how the caves turned out. They are super interesting and the buildings behind them look very beautiful behind the grotto.
In Grebovka Park you can also visit one of the last remaining vineyards that Vinohrady was named after.
I never visited the winery but in summer it could be a good place to grab a glass of wine and relax in the park.
2. Watch Sunset at Riegrova Sady Park
Our favorite thing to do in Vinohrday was to watch the sunset at Riegrovy Sady Park.
We only spent 10 days in Prague but I can quite confidently say that this has to be the best spot for sunset in the city.
In summer if the weather is nice the park will be full of people having a few drinks and a picnic as the sun goes down.
There are also a couple of beer gardens in the park if you would like to experience a Czech beer garden. It’s fun!
During the summer the park also has many live music events. So there is always a great atmosphere and a lot going on.
3. Go up Žižkov Television Tower
If you are looking for something quirky to do you can go up the Zizkov Television Tower. This is technically not in Vinohrady but so close that it should be included.
This strange tower is out of place in Prague and looks like something out of an 80s science fiction movie.
Built in the late 80s this tower was very controversial when it was first built. Many locals thought it was an eyesore.
But today people have grown more accustomed to the weird tower. This was especially after local artist David Cerny placed babies crawling up the side of the tower as an art project.
The crawling babies are one of the best reasons to visit the tower. David Cerny’s art can be found all over Prague and I think this is one of his most interesting art pieces.
If you would like to go up the tower, a ticket costs 13 USD. If you have some money to burn, you can also stay overnight. There is a hotel in the tower with only one room for 800 USD a night!
4. Visit the Farmers Market
If you like to cook at home then one of the best places to get some fresh produce is at the Vinohrady Farmers Market.
Here you can find fresh vegetables and fruit as well as meats and cheeses. You can also grab some fresh pastries and bread here.
The market is quite small but it is a good place to visit if you are staying in Vinohrady longer and like good food.
Note: When we visited the square where the farmers market is was under heavy construction. So it is not as peaceful as it used to be. But hopefully, it will be finished soon.
Best Restaurants in Vinohrady
If you like Vietnamese food you will be happy in Prague. During the communist era, many Vietnamese workers came to Prague. Which means they brought along their delicious cuisine!
ANAN – Asian Restaurant – is one of the best restaurants to get Pho in Vinohrady. They have super friendly service and a bowl costs about 8 euros. Which is much more affordable than most areas in Europe. ANA also has sushi and other dishes if Pho is not your thing.
Vinohradský Parlament Restaurant – is a great restaurant in Vinohrady to try some Czech cuisine. This restaurant is particularly well known for its dumplings.

Best Cafes in Vinohrady
If you love coffee like us then Vinohrady is a great neighborhood for you. Many of the best cafes in Prague can be found in Vinohrday. And believe me, we tried a lot! 😄
We always enjoy checking out the local cafes whenever we arrive in a new city and we were impressed with the quality of the cafes in Prague.
Nearly every cafe roasted their beans well and offered multiple extraction methods. Plus the coffee was cheap considering the quality that you were getting.
Vienna is known for its coffee culture but in my opinion, Prague leaves it in the dust when it comes to high-quality cafes.
We wrote an entire article about where to find the best cafes in Prague, most of them are in Vinohrady or in the Old Town. Below is a short list of some of my favorite cafes in Vinohrady:
One Sip – my overall favorite cup of black coffee. The flavor of the americano was perfect. Small seating area but the perfect place to just enjoy a coffee.
Version Coffee – my favorite overall cafe in Vinohrday. The coffee is excellent and they have comfortable chairs to sit back and relax in as well as a large area to get some work done.
La Boheme – is a great cafe if you are looking for something to eat with your coffee. It is beautifully decorated and has great pastries. It is also a very popular place in Vinohrady to get brunch.
