Medellin with its year-round mild weather (also known as “the city of eternal spring”) is the perfect place to exercise outdoors. Luckily Medellin also has fantastic outdoor gyms that are totally free!
In this blog post, I will show you what I think are the best workout areas Medellin has to offer 🏋️♀️
1. Unidad Deportiva Belen (Best outdoor gym in Medellin!)
If you are staying in Laureles or Belen then Unidad Deportiva Belen📍is by far the best. I always look for free workout areas in every city I visit and this outdoor gym in Medellin is my absolute favorite!
The outdoor gym in Belen is full of all the machines you would expect in a usual gym. There are benchpresses, leg presses, pull-down machines, and more. All of the machines are designed with a heavy counterweight that you slide along a bar to increase the resistance.
Considering the machines are free and outdoors it is incredible how well they work. You can also increase the resistance high enough for all but the very strongest lifters.
The park also has basketball courts, soccer fields, a running track, and an archery field. So there is always an awesome atmosphere and it is the perfect place to work out for everyone!
This outdoor gym is great for:
💪 Bodyweight workouts
🏋️♀️ Machine workouts
🏃 Running/sprints on the track
2. Gimnasio Libre El Poblado
If you are staying in El Poblado then the Gimnasio Libre El Poblado📍is a much more convenient park. It is a much more basic park than the workout area in Belen. But it is still one of the best outdoor gyms in Medellin with everything you need for a great workout.
Along with having pull-up bars and everything you need for a bodyweight workout. There are also bench presses, squat racks, and other machines that use weights attached to chains.
This outdoor gym is great for:
🏋️♀️ Lifting weights
💪 Bodyweight workouts

3. Cerro de las Tres Cruces (Medellin Outdoor Gym on a hilltop!)
Cerro de las Tres Cruces📍is an awesome hill to hike up that has amazing views of Medellin. But there is also one of the best outdoor gyms in Medellin at the top. Double exercise!
Hiking up to the top of Cerro de las Tres Cruces is very popular with locals on Sunday. There will be a train of people heading up to the top getting a sweat on every Sunday.
Sunday is also the best time to go as during the week the hill is almost empty and there have been some reports of robberies. I think it is quite rare but it is better to be safe than sorry.
The outdoor gym at the top doesn’t have any machines. But it has everything you need for a great bodyweight workout. It is not a place you would go for a regular workout as it is quite tiring just getting there. But it for sure has the best views of any other outdoor gym in Medellin!
This outdoor gym is great for:
🏃 Cardio hiking the hill
💪 Bodyweight workouts at the top

Best travel gym equipment
Since we are full-time travelers and are sometimes in remote or busy locations where it’s not easy to get a good outdoor workout in, we travel with some basic exercise equipment.
Everything we travel with is multi-functional and lightweight and fits in our minimalistic backpacks.
- Yoga mat – 50 USD
- Push-up bars – 15 USD
- Skipping rope – 9 USD
- Gymnastic rings – 30 USD
- Resistance bands – 15 USD
- 1l reusable water bottle – 10 USD
They are low cost in comparison to a gym membership and that way you can stay in shape no matter where in the world you are! You can also bring them to free outdoor gyms to elevate your workout.
