We are full-time travelers and SafetyWing’s Nomad Insurance has been a game changer for us when it comes to having long-term travel insurance.
Their newly launched App has made things even easier: You can manage your Nomad Insurance plan, make claims, and chat with customer care – all from your phone.
Read below our in-depth App review and our experience with SafetyWing.
PS: We spent weeks comparing the best health insurance for travelers and nomads before deciding on SafetyWing. Access our insurance comparison here.
What to Expect from SafetyWing’s App
I seriously wish SafetyWing’s App would have been out sooner. When I had to make a claim for a toenail surgery in Mexico I was faced with the typical bureaucratic process.
First, I had to find my policy and look up if it’s covered. Then I needed to find out where to make the claim, fill out a lengthy document on my computer, and synchronize my phone images to upload the receipts.
But the SafetyWing App changes all of that.
In one click and interface, you can find out if you are covered, make a claim, chat with customer care, and manage your monthly bills and insurance plan.
How to Use the App and Make a Claim
To get started you simply download the SafetyWing App (iOS or Android) onto your phone and log into your account. All of your insurance info is just one click away.
If you want to file a claim you simply click on the “Make a Claim” button and fill in your information. Send the claim and that is it! 🤯
If you have any questions you can click on the chat box and instantly get connected with 24/7 customer care. When I filed my claim I had a few questions and got them sorted right away.
Another cool feature is that all of your policy information is stored on the App. One of the most frustrating things about insurance is trying to file a claim and then being told your policy does not cover your issue.
With the App, you can see everything your policy covers you for at the click of a button.
You can also see your monthly payments and the start of the next payment cycle, which is very useful if you want to pause or cancel at any time.
Instead of digging through your emails or computer files, you can buy and manage your Nomad Insurance plan, file claims, and connect with customer support all in one place. Extra convenient if you are sitting on a bus in Bolivia heading to your next destination.
Simply log into the App and everything is right there! To give you a better picture we recorded a short video showing you what the App looks like inside👇
Why SafetyWing?
Travel insurance can be a confusing world to navigate, it was for sure for us. But we find that SafetyWing keeps it simple. Their plans are straightforward, flexible, and affordable for digital nomads or long-term travelers. No need to dig through lengthy documents.
There is also no need to specify travel dates or all your destinations, you simply pay a monthly fee (56$) as you go, which you can pause or cancel at any time.
This is perfect for nomads like us who make regular trips home. You simply restart it when you hit the road again. Or leave it active as you are insured for up to 30 days every 90 days of your policy (U.S. citizen get 15 days). Another big perk for most travelers!
The flexibility is what gives SafetyWing a huge advantage over many other insurance providers and why we choose it. Plus, we love how easy SafetyWing’s App and website is to navigate. In under 20 minutes, you have your travel health insurance sorted.
Try it Yourself!
Whether you are a seasoned digital nomad or planning your first adventure overseas you should give SafetyWing a try. We only had good experiences with it so far.
Previously filing an insurance claim felt like filing your taxes. Everything was super formal and you had to make sure you had all the right documents in place. Not fun at all.
But the SafetyWing App finally catches up with the modern traveler. No matter if you are on a hike, on a plane or sightseeing – you have your travel insurance in your pocket. Happy healthy travels!
